Once upon a time, police boxes were an essential part of Scottish law enforcement. In the early 20th century, officers would use the boxes as a home base to make calls, take breaks and more. Although they have since fallen out of use by the police themselves, some have been repurposed in creative ways. Like this one, some have been painted in bright colours and might serve as little coffee or art stands. As little pockets of the past, these police boxes embody how Edinburgh honours yet reinvents its history.
